It is important to set aside some time for tidying up your workspace. Find a day where you are not as busy and book yourself some time to get organised. Start with your In Tray. File away what needs to be filed and prioritise things that need to be actioned. Clear your desk of clutter, let your desk breathe. Make it a habit to have out on your desk only what you are working on at any given time. Find a place for everything you need, and throw out what you don’t. Find some surface spray and start wiping away dust and grime that has built up. Using an air aerosol, blow out any crumbs and debri that may have found themselves into your keyboard. Baby wipes are brilliant for cleaning grime away from surfaces. A cheap packet from the supermarket can be used to clean your keyboard, computer screen and telephone so that they are sparkling as new. Remember to pay special attention to the handset. Wipe your desk clear of dust until it is gleaming again. It is not however, just the physical things that need to be cleaned and tidied. Are you a technological hoarder? Do you have a lot of messy files on your desktop, or an inbox full of unfiled emails? Your electronic desktop should be as clean and organised as your physical one. Start filing what you need to keep, and deleting what you don’t ensuring everything is easy to find when you need it. After you have done all of this and are basking in the glow of your work space catharsis - grab your colleagues and head to the tea room! Whoever draws the short straw cleans out the fridge.
