I'll have that raw please

1/9/2015

We are all making more conscious decisions about our lifestyle and the things we put in our body as the options increase. Recently we have seen an increase in restaurants, cafes and catering offering the option for raw food. For those of you who haven’t heard of raw food it is uncooked and unprocessed foods, however this doesn’t exclude food like meat and fish.

Recently finding its feet in a steady market of people wanting to eat healthy, the raw food diet is no celebrity fad. Since the 1930’s studies have emerged about the damage cooking your food does to the nutrients and the benefits of unprocessed and untouched foods. Today raw food is typically used to detox and cleanse your body of the impacts of a fast paced lifestyle.

Raw food is considered anything that hasn’t been heated above 47 degrees Celsius. This usually means “foods in their natural state” or as some like to say “live food”. What you see is what you get with raw food, it hasn’t been tampered with or had anything added, this ensures that all the original, good for you nutrients, are still in the foods.

People who consume raw food, whether as a strict diet or one meal a day, report feeling more alive, lighter and generally happier. This may be because the consumption of raw food doesn’t rely on our own digestive systems to break it down, the enzymes in the foods consumed do it for us. It is also a promotes clear skin and is a  healthy way in aiding weight loss as you are cutting out the processed chemicals in your body.

Although stricter than the typical diet, the raw diet is not as hard as it sounds. With hundreds of cafes popping up around Australia, eating raw has never been so easy. Below are some of the top places in Australia!
