![]() Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has long been a hot topic, from choosing a teambuilding activity that makes a difference such as a volunteer or fundraising day or choosing to do what we at Business Retreats do each holiday season and choose to donate to a worthy cause (in 2018 we chose the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre) over sending greeting cards. It’s a great way to give worthy causes a much-needed boost and spread good will through your business by supporting the greater community. It’s become even more prevalent for organisations to use their events to communicate their Corporate Social Responsibility goals by getting their delegates to engage with a program that doesn’t just connect them to your chosen charity or social enterprise but gives them a stronger sense of community and philanthropic achievement. Creating an opportunity for delegates to learn first-hand how the donation will make a difference is a brilliant way to get them committed to the activity. So if possible, have a representative from the charity present to engage your staff and answer questions. It also helps if the activity allows them to see the benefits of their efforts (such a volunteering in a soup kitchen or spending the day cleaning a local beach.) When you can marry up a great learning experience, an educational workshop and a great cause, that’s a winning trifecta and we were able to experience one such program with Dialogue in the Dark. A program benefitting Guide Dogs Australia. The Melbourne-based experiential program allows participants to encounter what an average day is like for a blind or low vision person by putting them in complete darkness. Program facilitators with blindness or low-vision are experts in non-visual perception and work alongside participants as they discover the importance of effective communication. Groups can participate in the experiential program or one of the specially designed workshops challenging limits of your staff, overcoming their boundaries and discovering their potential. ![]() The half day workshops cover topics such as communication, leadership, team building and change management and invites the staff to raise the bar on their own performance. Without revealing too much and spoiling some of the surprise lessons and takeaways from this incredible event, it’s certainly a program worth looking into for an upcoming workshop or team building activity and it supports a truly wonderful cause as well.
