Undoubtedly, the events industry is full of creatives, attracting some of the most creative minds, arguably our industry wouldn’t exist without it, so why is it that sometimes it feels like we’ve seen it all before? And how do we keep our creative process, producing? Creativity can be tough to measure and even harder to define, but like most, we know when we see it. And while anyone can put together an event (even if it’s a bad one) getting one with that wow factor is rare. It’s also often the case that when we see something that’s so unique or clever, it’s not long before it pops up everywhere and quickly becomes tired.
So how do we keep our creativity thriving? We look for it. A challenge indeed when we often don’t know what exactly we’re looking for, but it can be found anywhere, from the way a chef plates your meal to a great customer experience you might have had with a business. When we find something that truly stops us and makes us take notice, it’s important to re-think and re-work the idea into a way it can be tailored into your events or business. Think outside the box, event creativity isn’t just about a clever theme and trendy décor, it’s about ways we can make guests feel special, even down to making the most of our budgets for the biggest impact. In the planning stages, sit back and ask ‘What would make guests keep talking about this event for weeks afterwards?” and find a way to add a little of that flair to your planning. Is the main aim to make the event memorable or enjoyable, are the two feelings different from each other? What events have you enjoyed and why? Step back and break your event down into sections. What’s the overall message, the look and feel, how will they be invited, what will their welcome be like, are the guests struggling to get to the venue, the food, the décor, entertainment and so on. By focussing on each element and asking yourself “Where can I make this experience just a little bit more memorable?” you’ll be well on your way to an amazing event. Don’t be afraid to look a little bit crazy, push a few boundaries and add some colour. Get your team involved as well. Fresh eyes can always see something new. Before long you’ll be surprised at what you uncover and create. Comments are closed.
